USA Government Relations-

Chile and the US talk frequently on items of mutual concern such as trade, security, culture, environmental issues, and international programs. The countries have an open trade agreement and are part of over eight of the same international organisations.

Disagreements: The largest area of tension between the two countries is Pinochet. Even though it is an old issue, the USA is known to have helped him come to power. This is kind of a controversy, and does not get brought up much. Another point of disagreement was the removal of Haitian President President Jean-Bertrand Aristide. The Chilean government strongly opposed this, but did not say anything. Overall, there have not been very many recent issues as Chile and the US become increasingly close.
