Fact Friday #15- Health II

Chilean Home Remedies-

  1. Palto-miel (Avocado-honey)- This is a common over-the-counter medicine, but it is basically just tea made with avocado and honey. You can make it at home and many Chileans swear by it!
  2. Aguita de tilo- A sedating, soothing tea made from linden flowers and lime used to cure colds and their symptoms.
  3. OTC Tapsín- A soothing hot lemonade.
  4. Gargle with Warm Water, Vinegar and Salt
  5. Ginger-lemon tea with honey- Grate or slice ginger and steep in hot water for 10 minutes then add lemon and honey. It is said to fight inflammation and be good for all kinds of “itis” (bronchitis, rhinitis, sinusitis, etc.)

Necessary Vaccinations for Before the Flight-

Hepatitis A
Recommended for all travelers
Typhoid
For travelers who may eat or drink outside major restaurants and hotels
Measles, mumps, rubella (MMR)
Two doses recommended for all travelers born after 1956, if not previously given
Tetanus-diphtheria
Revaccination recommended every 10 years

Keeping Fit-

In some places in Chile (sadly not where I live), biking is a primary mode of transportation. This helps Chileans stay healthy, while also lowering their transportation costs. They also enjoy spending a lot of time outdoors fishing, skiing, water-skiing, scuba-diving, and hiking both for recreational and fitness purposes. Patagonia is also considered to be one of the best places in the world to run. Soccer is the most popular sport and people play it, or just kick the ball around a lot.

    1. I'm sick now, but haven't been much. And I haven't tried any of them. Only tea with lemon and honey, which does help. <3
